Lisa Parker’s sublime and seductive painting style is in stark contrast to the thorny political and social issues that are part of contemporary concern. The luscious colors, the often playful objects, the carefully ordered composition serve to deliver her message with great tenderness and humour. Her paintings are paeans to joy, to sorrow, to people she loves and to people she has lost. While the works are truly soulful and on occasion, memento mori, they are at once full of hope and wonder.
Frameworks – windows, doors, apertures – accommodate, and perhaps even harness, the emotions she is expressing. The frames inhabit the composition sufficiently to allow for large fields of the ambrosial colors of the sub-tropics where she grew up and which are celebrated in her oils.
Lisa’s work is in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, The Museum of Art in Ft. Lauderdale Florida, many prestigious public and private collections. She has also been the recipient of numerous government grants and an Art in Public Places Award.
